Hong Kong Economic Times: The Importance of Soft Skills – Hong Kong VR Company Innovates Corporate Training

As technology continues to evolve, traditional in-house corporate training has gradually shifted towards more innovative approaches. In recent years, virtual reality (VR) technology has played an increasingly vital role in the corporate training domain. Hong Kong VR training company 3 Circles, with its innovative solutions, helps empower employees to enhance their soft skills and open up new frontiers in corporate training.
VR Technology Emerges & Transforming Training Approaches
Historically, corporate training often relied on traditional lecture-style methods, lacking interactivity and practical application. As times have changed, companies have begun experimenting with VR technology for employee training, but the applications have typically been limited to specific areas like safety engineering.
3 Circles’ solution architect Mills Wong states that Hong Kong is still in the early stages of VR technology adoption, with many multinational companies interested in the field, but training methods remain rather singular. “VR devices or technologies are often aimed at increasing engagement, and thus have seen the most prominent applications in entertainment and gaming.”
However, the core of 3 Circles’ solution lies in leveraging VR technology to focus on cultivating employees’ soft skills, such as teamwork and problem-solving abilities. “VR training can simulate scenarios that are difficult to recreate in reality, allowing employees to experience team collaboration in different situations, thereby enhancing their problem-solving capabilities,” Mills Wong explains.
3 Circles’ Comprehensive Soft Skills Development
3 Circles emphasizes the development of employees’ soft skills, with a design centered around three key aspects: teamwork, problem-solving, and experiential learning.
In terms of teamwork, the company’s VR training program divides employees into two groups – one group wears the VR equipment, while the other provides solutions, fostering team collaboration through virtual scenarios.
“Although departments within a company share the same goals, they often work in silos, lacking effective coordination. Through VR training, employees can directly experience the working conditions of different departments, enhancing mutual understanding and improving problem-solving abilities,” Mills Wong says.
In addition to teamwork, the VR training program also focuses on enhancing employees’ problem-solving skills. “For instance, in VR training for customer service personnel, we can simulate various customer feedback and demands, allowing employees to practice response techniques in a virtual environment, which capitalizes on the strengths of VR technology,” Mills Wong states.
Mainland Companies More Proactive, Hong Kong Firms Need to Step Up the Game
According to information obtained, 3 Circles has assisted over 30 mainland, Hong Kong, and multinational companies in VR training, involving a total of more than 2,000 employees.
However, compared to mainland Chinese companies, local firms in Hong Kong tend to be more conservative in their acceptance of VR training technology. 3 Circles’ creative architect Desmond Mok remarks, “Mainland companies have a more open attitude towards adopting new technologies for employee training, as VR equipment and technology are more prevalent in the mainland. Our survey found that around 30% of mainland employees have tried VR devices, while in Hong Kong it’s less than 10%.”
Desmond Mok believes that local companies in Hong Kong still have some concerns when it comes to explaining the effectiveness of VR training, such as worrying about employee adaptability or unsatisfactory training outcomes. “But mainland companies do not seem to have these problems.””
Looking Ahead, VR Training Poised to Become a Trend
According to market research firm ABI Research, the global corporate VR training market size reached $216 million in 2018 and is projected to grow to $6.3 billion by 2022, indicating that VR training has become an emerging and rapidly growing field.
Furthermore, some multinational companies have already begun to adopt VR technology for large-scale employee training. For example, the automotive manufacturer Volkswagen used the HTC Vive Pro VR device to train 10,000 employees in 2017, stating that VR training can streamline workflow and improve training effectiveness.
As VR technology continues to mature and become more widespread, VR training is poised to become a crucial trend in corporate in-house training. 3 Circles’ solution aligns with the times, fully leveraging the advantages of VR technology to empower employees to enhance their soft skills and infuse new vitality into corporate training.
